The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, as decided by the Scottish government. There has been a reluctance by Glasgow to host any big events after the subsequent withdrawal of Victoria, Australia as the initial host due to increased expenses. Unlike previous editions, the 2026 games will be a slimmed down version with only 10 to 13 games staged unlike 19 at Birmingham in 2022. However, the planned approach to use Glasgow’s facilities on site will reduce the burden on new outlays, remaining within the range of £130 and £150 million.
One of the more interesting features in this hosting bid is the little dependence on the country’s government funding. According to the commonwealth games federation CGF, £100 million has already been committed to the event, with £2.3 million contributed by Australia for other expenses like security. This forecasting approach has thus provided some good assurances that the games would go on without the presence of enormous government underwriting which is a clear indication of being financially responsible without compromising on the Event’s high quality.
Moreover, the fact that the tournament’s host country has already hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014 makes it possible for Glasgow to stage another successful competition. The historical flavored structures of the metropolis will be adequate for service delivery and cost efficiency thereby obtaining a healthy and thrilling Games for both the athletes and the fans posts
